Ben, the Founding Director, qualified with a Dip Iuris (Justice College), B Proc, LLB (UNISA) and a Masters degree in Criminal Justice – LLM (UCT). His credentials include being admitted to the List of Counsel of the International Criminal Court in The Hague, and being a full member of the International Criminal Court Bar Association (ICCBA). With over 30 years of experience in criminal law, his expertise lies in Bail Applications, Criminal Trials, Appeals to the High Courts of South Africa, Supreme Court of Appeal, Constitutional Court, and International Criminal Law. In addition to his legal practice, Ben also shares his knowledge and experience by lecturing part-time in criminal law.
Josua obtained the following qualifications in commerce and law: BCom Hons (UPE), MComm (US), BProc (UNISA), LLB (UNISA) and BDP (US). He holds the position of Director and has Right of Appearance in the High Court. Josua has experience in all aspects of criminal litigation.
André earned his LLB degree from the University of the Western Cape in 2001 and has been practicing criminal law since 2002. He is an experienced litigator with a sub-specialty in immigration law and a focus on drug-related offences and violations of the Marine Living Resources Act. André leads our After-Hours Bail Application Team, leveraging his extensive experience and relationships in after-hours criminal litigation to provide a 24-hour service. William graduated from Stellenbosch University with an LLB and worked at a renowned wine farm in the Stellenbosch Winelands before commencing his articles of clerkship. After completing his clerkship with an established firm in Somerset West, he was admitted as an Attorney in 2011. Initially, his practice encompassed general civil litigation and criminal, but since 2014, he has focused primarily on criminal law. In 2023, William joined Mathewson Gess Incorporated, where his integration into the team was seamless due to his valuable skills and expertise.
Since joining MGIA in February 2022, Jack-Pierre has completed his articles and has been admitted as an attorney. He is dedicated to providing strong legal representation for clients facing serious charges. With a passion for criminal law, Jack-Pierre approaches each case with a keen analytical mindset. He connects well with clients, offering the support and guidance they need during challenging times.
Keenan joined our team in 2024, bringing experience from the National Prosecuting Authority, where he served as a prosecutor. Previously, he was a maintenance investigator. As a candidate legal practitioner, Keenan has a strong interest in criminal law and is dedicated to ensuring that our clients receive effective representation and fair trials. He is committed to understanding the complexities of each case and providing thorough support throughout the legal process.
