Seven suspects were arrested in Table View last Friday for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, thanks to the determination of the officers attached to Maitland flying squad.

On Friday evening 20 September the officers responded to intelligence received of possible firearms that were kept in a vehicle in the Table View area. The officers spotted the vehicle, a VW T-Cross, and a Mercedes-Benz parked in Ringwood Drive in Table View.

“One of the seven suspects who stood outside the vehicles tried to flee to evade arrest, but officers quickly caught up and arrested the seven between the ages of 28 and 36 years of which one suspect is a female”, says police spokesperson Lt Col Malcolm Poijie.

The officers discovered and seized an AK-47 rifle with 28 rounds and an Uzi semi-automatic gun with 25 rounds of ammunition, found in their possession. The seven remain in custody and will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ court for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, once charged.
